Frits Koster is an experienced meditation instructor and qualified mindfulness teacher and trainer. He was a Buddhist monk for six years and during this period he studied Buddhist psychology at various monasteries in South East Asia. He has written several books on this subject, some of which have been translated into English. He has studied to become an MBSR/MBCT teacher at the Institute for Mindfulness (IvM) in the Netherlands and is affiliated as a trainer at various training institutes across Europe. With his wife he has set up a private practice from which he organises retreats and training in mindfulness and compassion.

As a trainer and author he collaborates closely with psychiatrist/psychotherapist Erik van den Brink, with whom he developed a follow-up programme for participants who have already followed a mindfulness-based training (e.g. MBSR or MBCT).  This programme is called Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living (MBCL). Frits and Erik teach a Teacher Training Programme on MBCL throughout Europe. Together they wrote ‘Compassievol leven’ (Boom, the Netherlands, 2012) and the helpbook ‘Compassie in je leven’ (Boom, the Netherlands, 2015). Their first book is published in German (‘Mitfühlend leben’, Kösel, 2013), in English (‘Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living’, Routledge, 2015) and in Spanish (‘Vida compassiva basada en mindfulness’, Desclée de Brouwer, 2017).
